芯/SHIN was highly evaluated for its design, which ensures both beauty and usability through the appearance of a shoehorn that stands vertically, its size intended to reduce strain on the user, and the high quality that successfully resides in the details.
Taking the opportunity of winning this award, we aim to expand its sales, while actively promoting the best use of the design in “Monozukuri”, which literally means the “manufacturing products” in Japanese, as well as enhancing our brand image.
We would like to draw your attention to the well-designed product by Lemnos.
芯 SHIN
In order to produce Shin, a standing shoehorn, the maximal allowance of gap between the shoehorn and the shoehorn holder was thoroughly tested. In the end, this allowed Shin to both stand vertically in the holder and be taken out from it without hassle. It is designed as slim as possible, so that it won’t take up much space by the front door.
The shoehorn is made of aluminum with a handle made from aluminum pipe. The tip of the shoehorn, made with forged parts, connects seamlessly with the joint. Such a lightweight shoehorn that can be used without bending one’s knees is another burden removed from daily life and, moreover, is a classy decorative touch by the front door.
Reviews by the Judging Committee
The appearance of the shoehorn that stands vertically is beautiful. The length of the shoehorn itself features not only a beautiful balance, but also the size intended to reduce strain on the user. Using different materials for the handle and spoon create a fine weight balance. The two parts made of different materials are joined seamlessly, which brings about high quality. It feels pleasant when you insert theshoehorn into the silicon base. The product perfectly ensures both usability and beauty.
GOOD DESIGN AWARD
This award is sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion and is awarded once a year for items featuring excellent design. The award has its origins in the “Good Design Selection System” (known as the “G-Mark System”) instituted by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Japan in 1957. Its current name was adopted in 1988 following a privatization. It is the only comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system in Japan. A wide range of genres, from industrial products to business models, event activities, and so on, are eligible for the award. “G-mark” has played a role as an index of “good design” for more than half a century since its establishment.
